One of the most common of medieval spices, used as extensively then as
it is today. It was featured in recipes ranging from meats to
beverages,
and must have been found in nearly every kitchen. It was quite often
used
in combination with such spices as cinnamon, cloves, galingale, and
grains
of paradise.
